My Garage

My grandfather started building racing boats in the late 1920's, and opened a marina in North Eastern Indiana in 1942, between Fort Wayne and the northeastern lake region of Indiana.  . My father took over the business in the late 50's.  Three generations in the marine industry has rubbed off on me--I love it and it's in my blood. I spent so much time in the shop that the smell of gasoline is like home.  Early on, I became interested in boat racing and I played with some nitrous motors, but I soon became intrigued by the older motors--the classics.  As my interest in the old outboards grew, I became aware that the marine industry had a gap--there were places to buy a new boat and new outboards, but no reliable dealers if you had a vintage engine that still had 'spark' (no pun intended)  but needed a few adjustments.  I opened Hot Boat Charlie's in 1999, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to service the older models. At that time,  I  began collecting and restoring some of the more unique and truly exceptional motors that were a product of American ingenuity since 1920.  It has been truly rewarding personally to restore these beauties to their original grandeur.  We take great pride in our finished product, and I think you will too.
